DJ Ivette 'La Coquí'
San Francisco, California

Ivette Fuentes was born in the town of Humacao, on the eastern shores of Puerto Rico. She grew up surrounded by music; from traditional Bomba and Plena, to the sounds of unforgettable salseros such as El Gran Combo, Sonora Ponceña, Roberto Roena, Willie Rosario, Bobby Valentín and Hector Lavoe, to all of whom she attributes her love of salsa music.
Ivette got started as a DJ in the San Francisco Bay Area, playing salsa and merengue at Amelia's, from where she went on to a dance club called Colors. Presently, she spins at various clubs in San Franscisco, such as Cocomo's.

Ivette has worked with such well-known artists as Tito Nieves, Larry Harlow, Roberto Roena, Jimmy Bosch, Plena Libre, Sheila E., and Pete Escovedo.

Pietro Carbognani used to "just listen to Italian music, but without any passion." However, things began to change when he dated an Italian fan of Salsa. "Then I heard the real thing," Carbognani says, "Hector Lavoe, Cheo Feliciano, Joe Cuba, Fania. I fell in love with that salsa, the one from 1965 to 1975. I couldn't get enough of it. I bought 150 LPs from a DJ, and then kept on buying more."

DJ Gury Gury discovered Salsa music while living and studing Spanish in Habana, Cuba. In 1986 he began an internship on CHRY 105.5 FM out of York University. After numerous shows and promotions Gary X, as he was known then, became the music director in 1989. He remained in that position until 1994 when he also gave up his show and other club DJing duties to travel the world.

Lino 'Taíno' Roldán is the producer and host of radio show La Brisa Tropical; broadcasted Sundays, from 11 am to 3 pm on KBZQ 99.5 FM. Based in the military community of Lawton/Fort Sill, Oklahoma, his show serves as a link between the area's military men and women, specially those deployed overseas, who listen online in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Korea, etc, and their family members. His format is Salsa, especially classic Salsa, but he also spins Merengue, Reggaetón and Bachata, The show has been on the air for 15 years. He also conducts live interviews with Salsa artists.
