In 2006 Carnival de Cuba was the biggest Cuban Carnival in Europe
86,000 people on the South Bank enjoyed the best music and dance direct from Cuba.
For
2007, Carnival de Cuba is moving down the river to a larger site - we
will be at Southwark Park on June 16th/17th. Our the new venue offers
much more space and far better facilities. Transport is also great —
the park is only three stops on the Jubilee line from central London
and close by Canary Wharf - and entry is free!
And our line up
is more massive than ever — back, by popular demand, is chart topping
Sur Caribe after their awesome 2006 tour. They will again be joined by
the iconic Pedrito Calvo, formerly of Los Van Van.
Sur Caribe
are originally from Santiago de Cuba, the island's second city and the
soul of music, dance and carnival in Cuba, so in keeping with this we
will also feature the inaugural tour of Septeto Tipico Tivoli — one of
the hottest Santiago Conga bands, along with La Conga de Los Oyos and
the 'reggaeson' sensation, Sangre Latina. We will also have UK-based
Latin bands and a Reggaeton showcase.
For 2007 there will also
be a lot more food stands and bars along with a huge Conga procession
led by Guillermo Davis and the Cuban bands, loads of free kid’s events
and dance workshops, longer hours and better facilities than before —
