Salsa Fix Party Nights - Horwich Print E-mail

The Salsa Fix Party Nights are held once a month, generally (but not always) on the last Friday of the month.  The venue is the Horwich RMI Club, Chorley New Road, Horwich BL6 5NH.  Entrance is £5 and the evening runs from 8pm until 1am.

I went to the March night which was held on the 28th, with a group of friends from Chester.  We were having a birthday night out for Mike of FunkySalsa, Chester and we arrived at the venue around 9.30pm.

There was plenty of free, on-site parking here which was great and there were already many cars in the car park.  We went into the venue, paid our £5’s and grabbed ourselves a table after getting some drinks.

This was a large, nicely laid out room, with plenty of tables and chairs around the edge, and a walkway behind the seated areas with access to the bar and toilets.  This meant that you never had to walk across a busy dancefloor to get to the bar etc.  The room was nicely decorated and was well maintained, with a great dancefloor which is always a bonus.

These events DO NOT have guest teachers or classes which makes a refreshing change from the norm.  The whole night is dedicated to just dancing :o)  This was great as there was no waiting around for the classes to finish, which generally start and end late at most venues, which cuts into dancing time.

There were already quite a few people there when we arrived and the dancing was in full swing.  Not long after, many more dancers started to arrive and before long the dancefloor was full.  Many of the dancers were familiar faces from the Chester, Manchester and Liverpool areas which was great.

I loved the music for the first couple of hours - it was varied in style and tempo, and was a good mix of familiar and unfamiliar tracks, all of which were great.  Later in the evening though the music seemed to become predominantly ‘new yorky’ in style, which was ok for a while but as it’s not my preferred type of music it became a little too much in the end.  However, the dancefloor remained full for the whole evening and everyone was enjoying themselves.

We had the obligatory Birthday Dance for Mike half way through the evening – sorry Mike, you know it’s gotta be done ;o)

All in all this was a really enjoyable night – nice venue with a great dancefloor, cheap bar, free parking and plenty of familiar faces.  One really nice touch was that the organisers came around with large platters of fresh fruit for everyone to enjoy – fantastic!

The only real downside that I can pinpoint was that it was quite cold – normally this is no bad thing as you soon warm up once you start dancing, but between dances we kept needing to put layers back on to keep warm.
