Gilberto 'Pulpo' Colon Jr was the pianist and musical director for Hector Lavoe, and can be found on many great Salsa albums, so it seems appropriate that he should have his own cd.
Pulpo's "Hot Bread" features a number of heavyweight musicians and arrangers, but this is not a full-on Salsa album, with perhaps only a handful of tracks that could be played in a Salsa club. This is to take nothing away from the CD, though, and I've listened to it end-to-end a number of times and dropped two of the songs when dj'ing.
The majority of songs are latin-jazz, with the two main playout tracks (for me personally) being Aparienca and La Murga, the latter of which has a wicked piano intro! The music here is top quality, and definitely worthy of a purchase.
