"I have a real eclectic
taste when it comes to Salsa, although classic Mambo really does it for
me a lot of the time! Here are some of my all time favourite tracks and
a couple of new ones thrown in!"
1. Cuando Te Vea - Spanish Harlem Orquestra or Bobby Valentin
The SHO version is really strong dance floor track, BV is more classic
mambo. Both tracks are great to dance to, couldn't choose between them!
2. El Matrimonio - El Gran Combo
I love El Gran Combo and this track is definitely my favourite, there
are some really strong percussion sections thrown in and a few good
build up sections, great stuff!
3. Chango Santero - Brooklyn Sounds
I am in love with Brooklyn Sounds, this song seriously kicks *ss,
perfect for all the shines fanatics out there, shame it doesn't get
played very often...
4. Otra Oportunidad - Jimmy Bosch
This was one of the first salsa songs that made the hair stand up
on the back of my neck, that was back in 1999 and it still holds it own
now! Jimmy has a way of really connecting with the dancers when he
plays, that man is seriously talented!
5. Chupa El Piruli - Franke Dante
Steve bought me this for Christmas a couple of years ago because i
wouldn't shut up about the track! The thing I love about this track are
the steel drums, very unusual but still manages to have a serious
dancers vibe to it, love it!
6. Silencio - Larry Harlow
This isn't really a dance floor track but I love it anyway. The drum
sections are awesome, I am a real big afro cuban/body movement fan and
this song doesn't disappoint with the drum breaks!
7. Que Lio - Marc Anthony
I heard this for the first time when I watched the El Cantante movie. I
never really liked Marc Anthony before but he totally lays it out with
this cover of a classic Hector Lavoe track!
8. My Favourite Things - New Swing Sextet
I dare anyone not to love New Swing Sextet! They have so many songs
that I love but this song brings back memories of my childhood (don't
you just love Sound of Music?) and still manages to make me want to
dance!
9. Hache Y Machete - Alfredo De La Fe
Love the show HYM did to this track. Well known for his use of violins
in his tracks,Alfredo De La Fe has a way of making a kick *ss salsa
track sound classy, or should that be a classical sound sound kick *ss?
Either way, it's a bad track!
10. Mambo Gallego - Tito Puente
Tito is the man! Again, so many tracks to choose from, but this had to
be it, I love the structure and real definition of the instruments used
in this track. The build up of this song is awesome, great for shines
(yes I am a fanatic, sorry!)
