I started collecting Salsa music
about 18 months ago, and am about to start dj'ing in the New Year. Not
a complete novice, I used to Dj a few years back (see my bio for details ). So, here's my first top ten;
Louie Ramirez - Noche De Salsa
Excellent mid-paced tune. Instrumental. Great solo parts from the
brass, vibes, and flute. Got this on the Exitos album, which also has
Presumida, another great tune!
Angel Canales - El Cantante Y La Orquesta
From the recently reissued 'Sabor' album on Fania. Some good tracks to
choose from on this album. Hace Tiempo is the track of choice, but this
is my fave.
Black Sugar Sextet - La Hija De Lola
Great solid vibes sound. Nice tempo and good for the dancers.
La Excelencia - La Lucha
First heard this as a DJ Duste remix - loved it ever since!
La Playa Sextet - Con Mi Guaguanco (Sizzla Remix)
Wicked track, but it's a little short. Nice one to Sizzla for doing a great job on the re-edit!!
Mana - Azucare
Good strong track for the dancefloor.
Monguito Santamaria - Oye lo que digo
Nice percussion and piano hook!! Builds up slowly.
New Swing Sextet - Sarandonga
From their new album, Back On The Streets. So many great tracks on this
cd, love their vibes sound and Cheo Medina has one of the best voices
around!!!
Roberto Y Su Nuevo Montuno - El Nuevo Montuno Llego
Really nice, solid track, good pronounced beats to keep the dancers happy ;-)
Willie Rosario - Rubias de Nueva York
Classic old 50's roaring jazz sound to the beginning of this one, but it builds throughout into a bit of a storming tune!!!
