Britfest 2008 Cancelled Print E-mail

The Britfest 2008 has been cancelled, below is the statement released by Salsa-UK;

"Dear Salseros

It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that I have to announce the cancellation of the Brit Salsa Fest at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool 1 - 3 February 2008. This agonising decision has been arrived at after weeks of the Salsa UK team struggling to keep the event alive, but on balance I believe it is in the best interests of everyone to take this course of action.

Naturally many dancers, artists, customers, vendors etc will be very disappointed by the cancellation of the BritFEST, I know how much you were looking forward to this event and I can only offer my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. In my many years of promoting Salsa Congresses this is the first time I have had to cancel such a big event and it was not an easy decision to make.

I do not wish to dwell here on the details of the ongoing legal dispute with Kate & Emma Moore here but suffice it to say that over the last two months misleading statements and partial stories have been leaked into the public domain causing enormous confusion about whether the event had been prevented by the courts from going ahead. It was never the case that any injunction was ever granted but this mistaken belief has dissuaded enough people from buying passes which has negatively impacted the volume of sales so greatly
as to make the event commercially unviable.

Of course all advance payments to the BritFEST will be refunded ASAP and we will also offer those who prefer to carry their deposits forward for the UK Congress or any other Salsa UK event a generous discount for your loyal custom.

On a more positive note I would like to thank all those people who have supported us both in the UK and overseas and appreciate your understanding in this unfortunate matter. Moving forward we will continue to strive to build on our many past successes and hope to bring you many more great events in the future.

Wishing you a fruitful festive season

Paul Young"
