How did you get into Salsa?

My passion for latin music has its origin in my hometown. In 1981, the Zentrum Zoo e.V. started with the annual festival "Viva Afro Brasil". The festival became the biggest Brasilian festival abroad and its line-ups included for example Daniela Mercury, Olodum, Jose 'el Canario', Oscar d'Leon or Celia Cruz. This has had an significant influence on my choice of music right from the very start.

How did you get into DJing

Being a bass guitar player, I realized that one can't get along without a band. Thus I started as a DJ as music is my legal drug I need every day of my life.

What do you like about Djing?

The possibility to let the audience plunge into a world of its own, far away from everyday life. I like to create an atomsphere that allows people to dance a cuddling bachata or have bewitching smile while dancing an old school mambo.

Who are your favourite DJs and why?

First, every DJ who can 'read' the audience and has the type and range of music to please the audience. Second, the DJ shoud have the appreciation of considering herself or himself as a member of service staff. There still to many DJs out there who haven't understood these basic rules.

What's the best club/event you have played in?

Best Club: Kagan.Lounge - Freiburg (Germany) The exclusive club is situated on the two top floors of a 180 feet tower offering a 360° view over the city of Freiburg, the black forest and the Vosges mountains. The interior has been designed by Vladimir Kagan (New
York) and Robert Williams (South Africa). Best Event: Viva Afro Brasil - Tübingen (Germany) Well, imagine more than 2000 people chanting and dancing to your music. Some of the Salsa Congresses are almost as big as the Viva Afro Brasil but unfortunately the people don't sing along, this is a completely different ambience.

What are some of your favourite tracks?

company secret ;o)

What's your must have Killer CD?

company secret ;o)

What was the last CD you bought?

Alex Wilson - Inglaterra. This is no joke! I play English salsa.

Have you had any embarrassing moments while playing?

Once there was a well known show act on a huge Festival in Germany. In the middle of the show the music stopped. The whole audience turned round and blamed the DJ. I blamed the CD-player and used the other deck. Once again the music stopped. ... In the end, I found out, that the recording on the CD was at fault. They had handed in the wrong CD with an old version of their Showmusic.

Tell us something most people don't know about you?

What has 32 paws, no wheels and can only be seen in winter? - Several friends of mine do have Sleddogs. My dog is trained as well and I do quite a lot of ski-joering in winter.

What music is in your car/cd player/tape player at the moment?

The latest release of Orishas and a CD of Nilo.
