Cool Salsa Nights @ The Pavilion, Birmingham Print E-mail
Written by JoJo

Salsa nights at the Pavilion, Moor Lane, Perry Barr, Birmingham B6 7AA are run by Trevor and Vinnie a.k.a. Cool Salsa Promotions, and have been going now for a couple of years or so.

These gigs only happen 3-4 times a year, and so they are a bit of an event on the salsa calendar in the Midlands.
Doors open at 8.30pm, and the class with Guest Teacher is 9-10pm.  Dancing is until 2.30am and entrance costs £8.

These events are always very well attended, and attract dancers from all over the Midlands and beyond, and it always seems like anyone that’s anyone on the salsa scene in the Midlands, go to these gigs.  They remain busy right up until the end of the night – nobody wants to go home it seems, and who can blame them!

This is a great, modern venue which has two separate dancefloors, seating areas and even a balcony that people can go out and dance on in the summer.  The dancefloors are great, though a little bit too crowded at times.

The Pavilion has a large, free, secure on-site car park with ample spaces, which is a bonus.

DJ Maverick is the resident DJ, and other regular DJ’s include Dennis, Sizzla and Ian Finch - between them they play and great, varied mix of styles and tracks, and always maintain a packed dancefloor.  There’s even a little injection of reggae included which I love Laughing

As at a few other venues, it gets quite hot here, but there is always the option of going out onto the balcony to cool off, and even do a bit of dancing out there if you wish.  There are a couple of large fans around the room, but they struggle to make much difference unless you are right next to them.

Occasionally there are dance shows at these events, and on one occasion there was a live band, which added an extra edge to the night as live Latin music is a rarity in Birmingham.

These salsa nights at the Pavilion kick ass and I have just one complaint…………… once every 3 months……… just not often enough!!

We want more………… we want more………… we want more.
