Review: Cross Body Leads Social
Venue: Federation House (Ukraine Club), Sherwood, Nottingham. 25th October 2008
This Saturday I went along to the monthly social night, hosted by Cross Body Leads Promotions in Nottingham, UK. I went with a couple of students, Julie and Sandy, of Simon Taylor’s “Flip and Bounce Promotions ” dance company here in Nottingham. We arrived at 7.30pm, in time for the class, which was lead by guest teachers, Michael and Maxine from Birmingham. I tired my lead during the class, with not holy unsuccessful results (!) whilst Julie and Sandy took part as followers. The class ended nearer to 9pm than 8.30pm, due a slightly late start. Then Cleon (director of Cross Body Leads) started the music, and after folks had got themselves a drink the dancing started and the floor remained full until the end of the evening.
Music ranged from some Alex Wilson tracks off the Inglaterra Album to Jimmy Bosch “Otra Opportunidad” with some more Cuban tinged tracks in between. In essence a good range meant that there was at least something for various musical tastes.
At about 10pm, Kate Moore of Salsology / GBSEx took over for a short introduction to ladies styling, which was very well received. Ladies had the opportunity to introduce some arm movements into their basic steps and a short shines sequence, before the dancing re-commenced. I did feel that this would have been better placed before the partner work class however, so the ladies could arrive early and perhaps not have quite so many men watching them, but also as to avoid interrupting the dancing. Regardless, the ladies really enjoyed it and threw themselves into trying out everything that Kate covered in the class.
The night finished off with an R’n’b wind down and some line ups, which were great fun. In summary, we had a great night. A really friendly atmosphere and great floor. No doubt, we shall be back!
