These Sunday Afternoon Dance-Abouts at Opus, within The Printworks, Withy Grove, Manchester M4 2BS are organised by Alex and Tina of Latino Euphoria.  They used to be held at La Tasca on Deansgate, where they hold their own salsa classes every Sunday afternoon.

Social dancing has been held at Opus after their classes at La Tasca for the past couple of months, but this was the first of their All-Day Dance-Abouts at the new venue.

Dancing was from 3-9pm and entrance was £5, which was a bargain for so much dancing time :o)

Opus is a city centre venue, within the trendy Printworks complex, where there are a variety of modern bars and restaurants, all under cover.  There is even a cinema here, so you can really make a day of it if you wish, without ever having to go outside.

The club room upstairs at Opus is modern and spacious, with its own bar and great sound system.  The room was very hot though until one of the dancers requested that the air-con be switched on - this should have been on from the beginning really.

When we arrived around 3.30ish there were a handful of dancers there, but within an hour the party was raging.

The first DJ was banging out some fantastic tracks and the dancefloor was packed!  There is something very special about dancing in the afternoon, and there’s nothing else quite like it.

Altogether there were 5 different DJ’s, including Mike Parr, Chris Mee, and Les ‘Mambo King.  There was also a reggaeton class with Ella Peck and two shows by the Element Dancers, one reggaeton and one samba – these were definitely for the boys though!  There was also an amateur salsa display.

By 6pm the place was absolutely rammed and the atmosphere was amazing, which was all the more fantastic for it being a Sunday afternoon, and that it was raining cats and dogs outside – Sundays don’t get much better than this.

During the day there were over 400 dancers through the door, from Manchester, Chester, Liverpool, Shropshire and beyond.
This was quite possibly one of the best Sunday afternoons I’ve had for a long time – I even won one of the raffle prizes :o)  I think last Sunday must have been my lucky day :o)

There is social dancing at Opus every Sunday from 6-9pm, with an increasing number of dancers each week, but larger scale, all-day events are planned every few months.  I’m told the next one is likely to be sometime in September.

The Latino Euphoria website is currently under construction, but keep checking periodically to see if it’s been launched, for details of future events.

The next one can’t come soon enough I say!
