As part of a weekend trip to London to see Fame the Musical (H from Steps has the worst American accent ever!), we decided to pop into Mambocity on the Friday night.

Based at Ealing Town Hall, this night proves to be very popular, bringing in dancers from all over London and the surrounding areas. The night is normally held in the canteen of the Hall (bit bizarre but fantastic floor in there!) but this particular night was Robert & Jean’s monthly special so it was held upstairs in the main hall.

We arrived about 11pm, Jean was in the main foyer, meeting and greeting as we walked in, she explained that it was their monthly special and that they had a performance later on that evening by Frank Santos and Natalie.

First point of call was the bar (thirsty work, driving down the M40!). Mambocity have their own in house bar, prices were fairly reasonable, we got change from a fiver for a beer and a coke, which for London, is pretty good! We planted our stuff by the DJ booth, Johnny G was playing, which was a pleasant surprise, that man is awesome! It was also right by the Turbo fan on the stage, which this room definitely needed, as it was well hot in there!

The music was great, DJ Cruz (Robert White) and Johnny G were keeping the dancers happy! They played a real mixture of music, a couple of Bachatas, some main stream Salsa and my favourite, Cha Cha Cha, which in my opinion, isn’t played enough in clubs nowadays!

The performance went down well (check out the video gallery to see the show) and there were two birthday girls that night too, one of which had to be gently persuaded to get on the floor for her dance (ok, I was standing behind her and I gave her a little push!) I love birthday dances, very entertaining!

The highlight of the night was interviewing Johnny G and Del Salereo. Johnny G is an awesome DJ and a very nice guy, he used to manage Mr Bongo’s (the best place to find Latin music in the UK, before it closed down).

Del is one of the most passionate people when it comes to promoting Salsa, he runs Salsa Tropicana, the only Salsa Show on the FM banding, he’ll tell you! All in all, it was a good night out, could’ve used a few more fans but other than that, top marks!
