Mucha Salsa New Year's Eve Party, Liverpool Print E-mail
Written by JoJo

This New Year’s Eve party was organised by Mani and the rest of the Mucha Salsa Team from Liverpool, and was held at The Greenbank Sports Academy, Sefton Park, Liverpool L17 1AG.  Although Mucha Salsa has been hosting regular weekly classes in Liverpool, and also monthly parties for some time now, this was their first attempt at a New Year’s Eve Party.

Tickets were £20 in advance or £25 on the door, which included classes, glass of bubbly on arrival, a hot and cold buffet, 2 shows, a free CD for every guest and the usual midnight countdown.  The whole evening also had a James Bond 007 theme.

Teachers included Mel C of Carpe Diem, Birmingham, Ces and Kerry of Latin Xces, Leeds, and Robert and Sandra who are resident Mucha Salsa Teachers.  DJs were Mani, FunkySalsa Mike and Mel C.

We arrived very early so whilst last minute preparations were still going on, we went for a drink in Mel, Steve and Cat’s room which was just across the car park.  Half an hour or so later we went back to the venue and were given our CDs and glasses of bubbly.

The room was all ready, lights were all switched on and music was now being played.  Having drunk our bubbly we got ourselves a drink from the bar and watched the first of the classes with Ces and Kerry, which was a little late starting at around 8.30pm.  The second class was taken by Mel and Cat.  Both classes were well attended and each lasted just over half an hour.

By the time the classes had finished many more guests had already arrived, and everyone was waiting either at the bar or in the separate seated area right next to the main room.  This is a modern venue and both rooms had been decorated really nicely for the party.  The main room had been lit with lots of blue fairy lights, which looked fab against the white walls and ceiling.

As there was a Bond Theme most of the men were dressed in a tux or a suit and the ladies had gone to town with some really nice dresses.  The Bond Theme also meant that there was lots of messing around and posing with guns – sooooooo funny!!!

The dancefloor was a really good size, and the 3 DJs played a broad spectrum of tracks, with something for everyone, and Mel was good enough to play my beloved ‘track 11’.  The dancing had started but for some reason many people had opted to stay in the other room drinking and chatting.  Whilst it was nice that there was another room to chill out and in relax, the downside was that initially there weren’t many people dancing in the main room.  This also wasn’t helped by the fact that at around 10pm the buffet was served, so a lot of people opted to remain in the other room whilst they ate their food.  The upside of this of course was that there was plenty of space to dance – every cloud has a silver lining as they say :o)

After a little food and plenty of dancing, the midnight hour soon arrived, and the music was stopped to welcome in the New Year.  This was followed by the shows – a Reggaeton display then a Salsa show by Brigitte and Franklyn of Salsa Crazy.  To get everyone back on the floor and into party mode again, the shows were followed by a fun Merengue line-up taken by Robert and Sandra.

When that was all done, most people then decided to stay in the main room, and the party really kicked off, especially when Mani played a couple of disco tracks and the dancefloor stayed full for the rest of the night.  The party finally ended at 3am – but not until Mani had been begged to play one last track.

This was a fantastic first attempt at a New Year’s Eve party by the Mucha Salsa Team and there were no hiccups or real problems that I was aware of.  A lot of hard work had been put into organising the night and it had paid off well, with around 160 dancers attending it.  Everyone seemed to have enjoyed their night and went home happy.

Next year we are promised something bigger and better…………
