Salseros! Salsa Nights at the Claverton Rooms, BathUniversity, Bath are monthly events run by Phil Heath and the Salseros! Team - www.salseros.co.uk
These monthly events are held on either Fridays or Saturdays so please check the website before travelling to make sure you have the right day/date.
There are Guest Teachers every month and quite often there is a live band too.
The room is a large, modern student bar, within the University of Bath complex which can accommodate up to 200 dancers. It has 3 separate areas, but is open plan with wall-to-wall wooden dancefloor. The dancefloor is great and there is plenty of space, and the sound system is fab. There is ample free parking at the venue and as this is a student bar.......... yes you guessed it folks............... bar prices are low
There are generally 6 separate classes of different levels and styles which are led by the Salseros! Team and the Guest Teacher of the month. Classes were well organised and each class had access to its own sound and mic system.
Classes are 8pm-10pm with Dancing from 10pm until 2.00am.
Entrance is £10.
This is a very relaxed and friendly gig, and the DJ's play some of the best music I've heard at a gig. All types of latin music are played, i.e salsa, bachata, cha cha cha etc.
The modern room, low ceiling and extra disco lighting brought in by the organisers help to give this venue a more 'clubby' feel and the sound system pumps out volume and depth of sound to match.
The University Complex is quite large so finding your way around can be tricky, but directions and a map of the complex are available to download from the Salseros! website.
The night we went, there was a good turnout, and all the classes were well attended. We danced most of the night and when we left half an hour or so before the end, there were still plenty of people left.
Quite honestly I can't really find anything bad to say about this gig. The only slight gripe was that the lighting around the bar area is quite bright - but I was told that the options with bar lighting were limited............... on or off........... and a bar in darkness is not a good idea. The rest of the lighting at the venue was controllable with various switches and dimmers so not a problem. Maybe at some point in the future, the bar lighting can be controlled better.
