Saturday Salsa Nights @ The Canley Club, Coventry are monthly events run by SalsaDelic – www.salsadelic.com
There are 3-4 classes at the beginning of these events, of various levels and styles to choose from with Guest Teachers, which run from 7.30pm to 10.30.pm.
This venue has a large free car park behind the club with its own security.
Dancing is from 10.30pm to 2.00am and entrance is £10 for classes + party or £6 after 10.00pm.
Resident DJ’s are Graham G of SalsaDelic and Kal of Latin Motion.
This is a large venue with split level dancefloors. The main dancefloor is wooden, and this is a very nice, fast dancefloor.
There is also a smaller dancefloor area which is on a different level, which overlooks the main dancefloor.
As this is a social club the bar prices are cheap which is always a bonus, although oddly I bought the same two drinks, from the same bartender, at different times during the night, but the second time the drinks came to a different price!
This is a lovely venue, with plenty of seating around the room and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly which is always nice.
There was always plenty of room on the dancefloors even though there was a good turnout of dancers.
One drawback though is that it gets quite hot in there, and even after only one dance you have already started to feel the effects. Getting hot a sweaty though is unfortunately one of the things in salsa that you just have to get used to. Having said that, air-con would be nice, though as at many venues, it is just not available.
The organisers have provided some large fans to help with the heat, but they struggle to make any difference. It’s certainly not the worse venue for heat problems that I been to though, by a long way.
The dancefloor was still busy at the very end and a good time was had by all. Definitely a venue worth checking out if you’ve not already been.
