The Colliery Club in Coventry is a new venue run by SalsaDelic, this was the launch party of the venue, held in conjunction with Latin Motion.
We arrived around 11:45pm (kinda got lost due to dodgy multimap directions) to the site of several cars parked along a country lane and the sound of loud salsa music being played from a rather large social club!
As we approached, we looked up and saw several silhouettes of salsa dancers moving to some classic Colombian salsa, reminded me of when I first started dancing!
When we got inside the venue, it was packed, and I mean squeezing past people packed! We managed to find seats by the stage (and one of the large fans, phew!) and we had a quick look around the room.
The dance floor was rammed and you could feel the atmosphere in the room, it was great! And, the floor, was fabulous!
From the moment I got onto the floor, I didn’t get off for most of the night! Apart from one dodgy moment with the cd (we know it wasn’t you Kal, honest) the dance floor was full with salseros enjoying themselves to tracks being spun by Dr Salsa and Graham G (SalsaDelic).
Robert Charlemagne was there (guest teacher for the evening), doing his usual thing of entertaining the ladies and making them feel special, as he moved them around the dancefloor, executing moves they thought they couldn’t do, but they did!
The night finished 2am, which was far too early for me (could've had something to do with our slight detour!) but Graham ended the night nicely with some classic soul, that had me singing all the way home!
It was a great night, (big thumbs up to the organizers) Coventry has got one of the best salsa venues in the midlands and we will definitely be back!
