Baila Society - Online Salsa Class Website Print E-mail

baila_society.jpgThe Baila Society website is probably the most popular ‘online’ salsa instruction website out there. They have students across the world, in over 28 countries I believe?!  You pay a monthly, quarterly or annually subscription and you can access all kinds of classes, from partner work to shines, ladies styling and (more recently) a cha cha section of varying levels.

We met up with Daniel, Ahtoy and Joey of Baila Society at the NYC Salsa Congress to interview them for the site. During the interview, they talked about how Baila Society started, their experiences whilst training and  performing with Santo Rico, and how the website came to be.

Now, online Salsa instruction hasn’t really appealed to me before, however, these guys spoke so emphatically about it, I thought I would give it a go. They have a special offer on at the moment where you can try the site out for free for three days, if you are not happy with it after the trial, you can just cancel.

There are two types of subscription, the BASO section and the BASO and Santo Rico studio section. I decided to go the whole hog and sign up for both as I have always been a fan of Santo Rico footwork.

The content is broken down into levels of ability and there is a demo and an instruction clip for most of the content. I found this to be useful as I could see the content before starting the instruction section, and it was easier to flick through the clips.

There are also guest workshops on there from the likes of Masacote Dance Company and Ismael Otero, you can also comment on the workshops on the site as there is a forum. This has proven to be quite a nice touch, particularly as the guys do read the forum and have put content on there at the request of their readers.

I don’t want to say much more about the site as I feel it will spoil the exploration experience for all of those eager salseros J but I will say that I am now an online salsa workshop convert and I will not be cancelling my subscription when my trial runs out!
