'Salsa con Soul' is Alex Wilsons 6th CD and continues where Inglaterra left off, this time bringing Soul and Gospel into the Salsa mix.
The CD opens with 'You're Fine', and you know this is an Alex Wilson cd from the opening bar!! It's a very dancefloor friendly song, with English lyrics, which we'll no doubt be hearing a lot of in Salsa clubs across the UK. 'Sabroson' follows and is another one aimed firmly at the dancefloor, which will get a good airing from the DJ's.
Rhythm & Life is next and is a heavily Soul influenced number, although still danceable, which is followed by 'Antonio', a fully instrumental piece which gives the percussionists a chance to do their thing.
Mi Buenaventura is one of the strongest tracks on the CD for me, with some killer piano featuring prominently through the track and will no doubt keep the dancefloor full and energy levels up.
The album then winds down a little, with more of the soul influence coming to the fore. Comprising a couple of cover versions (Al Green's 'Lets Stay Together' and Randy Crawfords 'Rio De Janeiro Blue'), a slow soul burner in 'Stronger', the subtle cha-cha of 'This Time', and 'Memories.
All in all, the prominence of english-lyric based songs (7 out of the 10) will undoubtedly ensure Alex has a hit on his hands with this release. Not only does it have some great dancefloor numbers, but the sequencing has ensured a very good listening experience in its own right.
