The debut album from new york based Black Sugar Sextet, led by pianist Lucho Cueto, was recommended to me by George Rodriguez of New Swing Sextet. As expected, it's perfect for those fans of the vibes based sound coming out of New York, from the likes of New Swing and Grupo Latin Vibe. The sound is also reminiscent of Son Boricua, who Cueto has been part of in the past.
The album opens with a version of Copacabana. Skip past this, and the album is very solid throughout, with a good number of good tracks for the dancefloor. Towards the end, you get another version of Copacabana (an english version this time), plus a cover of the class Fania track, Anacaona.
