Marlow Rosado has become the first new artist to appear on Fania Records in over 20 years, with this album, Salsasa, having recently been signed by the prestigious label. Rosado has already written, played, and produced hits for some of the most renowned artists in Latin music, but this time has taken centre-stage with his own offering.
The CD opens with title track Salsalsa, featuring guest vocalist Andy Montanez, and is a straightforward mid-tempo pumping Salsa tune. This is followed by Expertos del Amor, my favourite track on the CD and guaranteed to fill the dancefloor, sounding like classic El Gran Combo.
Me Gustan Todas is a very uptempo, piano-driven song, then the pace is slowed right down to a good teaching tempo for Todo a tus Pies.
Pacto Entre Salseros is another solid mid-tempo tune with a prominent piano hook driving the song throughout, which is followed by Perdoname, a laid-back nicely tempoed song.
A couple of slow, but still dancefloor-friendly, offerings come next from El Aprendiz and No Quiero Nada Contigo.
The pace quickens again for Olvidate de Ella, before we have the final track of the CD, Tema Riquena, which again features Andy Montanez, and is another very solid dancefloor tune for the more mainstream Salsa clubs.
Overall, this is a quality offering from beginning to end, filled with strong hooks. Suitable for the more mainstream Salsa clubs, the dancer seems to have been the main focus during the production of this CD, with the ratio of dancefloor-friendly tunes being right up there and a whole range of tempo's catered for.
A must-have CD for the majority of Salsa DJ's, and one of which you're sure to hear out regularly.
