 The follow up in the very popular NYC Salsa series sees DJ Lubi really raise the bar!! If you thought the first two were good, then you're in for a treat with this release.
There's no easing into things, as Pete Bonet and Louie Ramirez get proceedings started with 'De'Se Mismo Trago', a 6 minute building crescendo of horns and timbales. This is followed by a favourite of Jojo's.... 'Papa Boco' by Latin Tempo, which was featured on the Salsa Selecta compilation from a few years back.
The album then proceeds through classics from Tipica 73 and Chamaco Ramirez, before the killer 'Loco Por Ti' from Pipo La Superior - awesome dancefloor material. The vibes-based 'El Tabacon' from the Joe Cuba Sextet is next up, and is another dancefloor gem (there aren't many tracks on this CD that aren't). Despite its age, this wouldn't sound out of place on the new cd from New Swing Sextet. Timeless!!
The entire CD (a rather meaty 16 tracks worth) keeps the quality threshold right up there, but is obviously aimed at the fans of the New York style salsa sound.
It's nice to see the inclusion of 'Con Su Permiso', by Hector River - A particular favourite of mine, and the inclusion of this alone makes the CD a worthy purchase!
