Willie Colon - The PlayerA great 2CD overview of the best of Willie Colon. A living legend in the real sense. It starts with his very first release “Fuego en el Barrio” on Futura record. The rest are classic Colon tracks, listed in chronological order. Willie Colon fans will be familiar with, “The Hustler”, El Malo”, “Panamena”, “La Murga”, “ La Banda”, “ Apartmento”, “Juancito” to name a few.

The tracks also cover Willie’s recordings with Vaya records. Plenty of vocal support from fellow legends Hector Lavoe, Rueben Blades and Ismael Miranda. Ok there’s plenty of great dance material here; but look for the Latin Soul, Boogaloo, Latin Funk, Afrobeats, Latin Fusion tracks. There’s something there for all Latin music fans, even string arrangements!!!  However the best stuff for me is the old skool salsa, big on the brass section(as to be expected) Some fantastic piano breaks, Lavoe’s silky voice. Great stuff.

In my opinion it well worthy of the old plastic, great dance jams and good listening material, this is the roots of Salsa folks.
